Med Provider Network (OMPN)
Medical Treatment
Injured workers are entitled to receive all medical care reasonably required to cure or relieve the effects of the injury. Generally, the employer controls the medical treatment for the first 30 days after the injury is reported, and the employee is then free to select any treating physician or facility. This is about the time when medical costs and treatment increase and difficult to manage.
If the employer and employee have opted for a managed care program, the direction of treatment will be controlled by the treating physician within the Medical Provider Network (MPN).
Employer Control
As an employer, it is critical to have certain processes and procedures in place in order to maximize your control.
The processes begin with the human resource department and continue through the protocols developed for third party vendors. Here are a few simple questions to ask yourself:
- Do you have an MPN to maintain medical control?
- Is the MPN safe guarded against applicant attorneys?
- Do you control which physicians are a part of your MPN?
- How many physicians are part of your MPN?
- Do you trust your claims administrator to make decisions regarding your providers, and will they be in the best interest of the case, the employee, the providers and you?
Establishing a Medical Provider Network based upon your needs and experience will assist in grasping control of the medical treatment.
Occlink has the experience and expertise associated with creating boutique MPN’s allowing for maximization of cost containment. In combining the use of the Claims Management System and your boutique MPN, medical treatment control will be accomplished.
